I started writing this while standing in the freezing cold wind in Pozzallo waiting for the catamaran. I was a foot passenger.

The time was 6.24pm. The temperature was a humid and chilling 14⁰C. A few passengers who were taking shelter inside the only structure that had the semblance of a room (it was more of a container) were told that they must vacate the area and move outside.

I overheard a passenger commenting that she was running a fever. There were two plastic chairs available for all those waiting to board the catamaran.

Some travellers decided to make the tarmac their chair. We boarded at 7.10pm.

What baffles me is how an EU country is allowed to operate such a site. Are there no rules and regulations that safeguard the well-being and safety of travellers?
