A total of 34 wrestlers, from five countries, recently participated in the Malta Open International tournament which was staged in Naxxar.

The top team this year was Wales. Their wrestlers won three weight categories besides adding a silver and a bronze to their tally to lead the overall classification.

The national team of Malta, composed of a few seasoned wrestlers and a good number of beginners, were the runners-up.

Adam Vella and Gary Giordimaina won gold while Mark Galea and David Galea were both runners-up in their respective weight category.

Jack Attard and Mahmoud Faisal also played their part for the Maltese team after claiming a bronze medal each.

Northern Ireland finished third behind Malta with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, while English team Bradford and the Swiss outfit returned home with a gold medal each.
