Auxy turns up the volume on a new way of creating digital music on your iPhone or iPad. It’s an app designed to take away the boring bit of creating music and replace it with a more intuitive way of creation. In the company’s own words, Auxy removes “spreadsheet music making” by creating a tool that’s fun and easy to use.

The app itself is fairly lightweight and presents you with a segmented black screen when you start. That’s the creation screen. Here you can choose the elements of the music, from the beat and rhythm to the melody and high notes. It’s all there on the single screen and ready to go.

Each segment controls an element of the tune, which can be drilled down to adjust the pitch, tone, speed and effects applied to it. Switching between screens is seamless and this is what makes Auxy potentially very good indeed. It takes away the complex overlay of other music authoring software and brings the actual creation to the fore. It also embraces gesture control to allow you to play around with your track with ease until you’re happy with it.

Currently, Auxy is limited to electronic music and you can only synthesise a number of instruments. However, more is planned for the future. That said, the current version does achieve its goal of making the process of creating music as simple as possible and a lot more fun. Within a few minutes of opening the app, you can be building the foundations of a track. Once you’re happy with it, you can record it. Auxy is an excellent music app that really does make being creative fun. By dragging and dropping some windows and playing around fora few hours, it’s possible to create something that won’t hurt your ears. For that alone, it’s well worth a download.
