In November, 71 earthquakes having magnitude 3.5 or more occurred in the Mediterranean. The strongest earthquake globally registered magnitude 7.1 and took place on November 15 beneath northern Indonesia’s Molucca Sea. It was followed by numerous aftershocks. The quake also triggered a tsunami warning which was later cancelled as only small waves were generated. There were no reports of casualties or damage. Locally, on November 19 at 2.06pm, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck around 60km northeast of Gozo. No reports were received on the University of Malta’s Seismic Monitoring and Research Unit website. If readers felt earthquake-related shaking on this date, they are encouraged to report it through the online questionnaire found at http://seismic.research.um.edu.mt .
