The Seashells Resort at Suncrest, Qawra, has closed and will reopen on April 1 next year after undergoing a massive €7 million refurbishment project. The refurbishment will affect all areas of the hotel, especially the guest rooms, which will be completely overhauled, while the public areas will be given a modern feel and design.

The resort will make use of the pre-planned winter closure period to implement these works and improvements which could not have been carried out while guests where occupying the hotel. Once the refurbishment project is completed, thereby rendering the hotel more energy efficient, the hotel will remain open all year round.

The upgrades and improvements being made will help to strengthen our position to offer guests a level of service which is second to none. The latest refurbishment will complement other improvements that were done across all areas of the hotel over the past year

Hotel general manager Joseph Vella said: “The upgrades and improvements being made will help to strengthen our position to offer guests a level of service which is second to none. The latest refurbishment will complement other improvements that were done across all areas of the hotel over the past years, the largest being the installation of a new kitchen and opening of a completely new restaurant with a seating capacity of 460 guests, last year.”

Among the areas of the resort which will be upgraded are all the guests’ rooms, which have been totally refurbished with brand new furniture, a room management system, double-glazed balcony doors, flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and new bathrooms and fittings. Once completed, the new rooms will not only be aesthetically pleasing but will also have better practical and comfort levels.

Together with the rooms, the hotel corridors and lifts will be totally changed and overhauled. Works will also be carried out to improve the services and the feeling of the resort, where the management will be focusing on upgrading details such as soft furnishings in lobby and public areas, that will make guests feel not only luxuriously welcomed but comfortably at home at the resort.

Other works being carried out include the façade of the hotel, which will be given a new colour, while the railings of the balconies will be changed to glass. Another major investment will be made to change the hotel’s plant, including the boiler and water systems of the whole resort. To ensure that the works are complete on schedule, AX Hotels have appointed two different contractors who will be working simultaneously on the project.

Mr Vella said: “Given this huge investment in upgrading the hotel amenities we will now be able to tap into new markets and attract a different category of guests that were previously not on our marketing strategy.

“Meanwhile, the bookings for the spring and summer seasons are already very encouraging, with a number of bookings being made well in advance.

“The hotel this year will continue to focus on its successful ‘all-inclusive’ package – whereby food, drink and use of other facilities in the hotel is all included in the price.”
