This year sees Chris Ebejer commemorate 10 years of intense work spanning his artistic career. To celebrate this anniversary, a major retrospective exhibition is being held to showcase the development and evolution of his art over the past 10 years. The exhibition, titled Retrospective, includes an array of works created using various materials from his rich repertoire.

Through the exhibition one can observe various developments and techniques employed by the artist over the past decade, resulting in both figurative and expressive impressions.

This time, rather than being focused on any individual style or flavour, the viewer is invited to relish a taste of diversity reflecting Ebejer’s eclectic qualities as well his ability in adapting a variety of materials. The collection highlights the artist’s proficiency and creativity through a range of sculptures made from bronze, terracotta and ceramics.

Ebejer has never been interested in making a name by producing controversial works simply for a short-lived impact, but would rather be known for his sense of continuation of that same beauty that always characterised European art over the centuries.

His works are intended to transmit aesthetic pleasure that generate a certain joy deep within the viewer.

Ebejer’s artistic journey started at a tender age when he became the first Maltese artist to have a work on permanent display in East China. In 2002 he was commissioned to design and build the horse for the film Helen of Troy.

Ebejer is also well known for several public monuments. His largest work so far is the large fountain located at Montekristo Estate. He won several awards and competitions, including the Mater Dei monument at the entrance of the hospital.

In 2008, he was commissioned by the Archbishop to make the silver statue given to Pope Benedict XVI when he visited Malta.

Chris Ebejer’s Retrospective runs until December 28 at the Casino Maltese, Valletta.
