The price of petrol and diesel in Malta was substantially higher than the average in the European Union and the absolute majority of EU states, the Nationalist Party insisted.

It said the government was also hiding tax on fuel.

While this tax, the PN said, was at par with other European taxes on fuels, the actual fuel price of was substantially higher.

In Sweden, for example, the price of petrol excluding taxes was 30c lower than in Malta and that of diesel 27c lower.

The Opposition again challenged the government to public the contracts of sales and explain for how long the people had to pay these prices.
