Qrendi 0
Qormi 3
Micallef 2, 6; Effiong 40;

Premier League side Qormi found little difficulty in defeating Third Division outfit Qrendi in a one-sided encounter, yesterday.

Two goals in the opening six minutes by Qormi striker Ryan Micallef set the tone for a comfortable victory for Josef Mansueto’s men who added gloss to their win with a third goal from Alfred Effiong just before half-time.

Qormi were clearly of a different class and could have won by a much bigger margin had they not missed countless scoring chances.

Qormi forged ahead after only two minutes when Micallef hit home from close range after being served by Frank Temile.

Micallef struck again four minutes later when he bundled the ball home after a Temile cross was nodded down by Effiong.

On nine minutes Effiong should have made it 3-0 but he lobbed the ball over the bar with only Qrendi goalkeeper Clive Caruana to beat.

On 22 minutes Effiong again came face to face with Caruana and the Qormi forward was denied by the Qrendi goalkeeper.

Qrendi’s first threat came in the 38th minute when Denis Di Maio drove the ball over the bar from a Calvin Mballa cross.

Five minutes before the break the unmarked Effiong headed the ball home from a Temile cross.

In the second half Qormi took their foot off the pedal as they looked to administer their lead.

Scoring chances remained few and far between with the only chance falling onto the feet of Micallef on 73 minutes but the young striker saw his shot from the distance saved by Qrendi substitute goalkeeper Roderick Vella.
