Land in Maghtab which is currently unused should be covered with photovoltaic panels, creating a Crystal Pyramid, Labour MP Deo Debattista said in parliament this afternoon.

He insisted that the country needs to focus more on renewable sources of energy, particularly solar energy.

The governemnt, he said, should encourage the setting up of companies who would rent space on which to set up PV panels and produce energy.

Households too should be encouraged to install more PV panels.

He said that for a start, street lighting units should be equipped to get their supply from solar energy.

Producing energy from alternative sources would make for cleaner energy and ultimately, lower costs, he said.
