It's Christmas-time, and that means many of us will be looking for great gifts to buy for our loved ones. If you're looking for something unique and different, why not check out The Crafty Snowflake? She takes bits and pieces others might just throw away, and turns them into something cute, quirky, and functional.

Meet Jessica – the woman behind The Crafty Snowflake.

What is The Crafty Snowflake?
The Crafty Snowflake is me! I was born and raised in Malta, but I’m English. I’m a stay-at-home mum of 3. Knitting, crochet and sewing run in the female side of my family, so I suppose I’ve got the predisposition for it! As far as crochet goes – which out of the three I mentioned before is my absolute favourite – I’m self-taught (using the wonderful world of the Internet and especially YouTube).

Basically, I’ve got a few 'ready-made' crochet products to sell, usually made from my own patterns and designs, but mostly I’m open to taking orders for anything that people would like! It’s especially interesting when it’s something I’ve not crocheted before! I love a new challenge, and I strive to learn new things about the craft as often as possible.

My prices vary depending on the item, and how much time and material was needed to make it, but I believe I’m very reasonable in my pricing mainly because I’m not in this 'business' to make me rich. I’m in it to do something I love, and the extra money certainly comes in handy since I’ve got children! My target market is anyone who’d like something new, original, fun, unique or practical! I love making things for children though, especially babies. They’re always so adorable!

Where do you get your inspiration for the designs from?
All over the place really! Mostly from pictures I see online, sometimes because I need (and want) to make something practical, or fun for one of my children or someone else. Sometimes the ideas just pop into my head out of nowhere! I sometimes use free patterns I find online to practice and try to perfect my craft, but I also love creating my own patterns and designs too. I also love getting new ideas and inspiration as well as experimenting with new techniques and materials – I’ve crocheted with strips of plastic bags before.

Do you have a favourite piece?
My favourite piece is always changing! I’m very proud of most of the things I make, but my favourite piece is always the thing I’m working on at that moment! That’s how I’ve kept up with this craft. If I wasn’t interested or excited to crochet I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t make the time!
