When one drug user was asked to submit a drawing to be considered as the Prime Minister’s Christmas cards, she protested that she preferred to leave the rehabilitation programme than to try her hand at drawing, according to Caritas’ executive director.

“However, she ended up being one of the participants and discovered a new talent along the way,” Leonid McKay said.

Mr McKay was speaking at an exhibition showcasing the set of six official Christmas cards which were designed by the residents of San Blas and the shelters and those undergoing the prison inmates programme.

Michelle Muscat, Chairwoman of the Marigold Foundatio, thanked her husband, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, for supporting the idea of having his official Christmas cards designed by Caritas’ residents. Last year, the cards were designed by autistic children.

Addressing the residents, she hailed them as her inspiration for carrying out her work with the Foundation.

Dr Muscat in turn said that the process of reintegrating into society was one which demanded courage.

“If I were in your place, I don’t know whether I would have your courage,” he said.

“We want to see you integrated into society. And it’s important that society does not reject people but integrate them and utilise everyone’s talents in the best possible way.”
