The new look at Tal-Kaptan restaurants. The new look at Tal-Kaptan restaurants.

Tal-Kaptan restaurants in Qawra and at the Valletta Waterfront have undergone a revamp and modernisation of the interior and brand.

While retaining the nautical theme, the restaurants were renovated and given a new look and feel. The decor is now warmer and lighter, creating a more friendly and relaxing ambience. An element of fun, together with a cheeky and curious design with traditional elements, have been introduced, with each restaurant featuring a collection of memorabilia and artefacts.

All of this has been put together by Karl Mallia, who previously worked on other projects within the AX Group.

“While retaining the core service values our patrons have come to expect, we are enhancing the customer experience and taking it to new levels. Customers visiting Tal-Kaptan will see a difference in decor and ambience but will still be given the family-friendly service this 26-year-old restaurant has always been renowned for,” said AX Hotels hospitality director Claire Zammit Xuereb.

The menu has also been revamped to address the tastebuds and dietary requirements of diners, while offering better value for money. Apart from the wide variety of pizzas Tal-Kaptan is well-known for, the restaurants will also be serving a variety of pasta dishes, salads, grills and desserts.

The concept is to offer patrons traditional cooking with a modern twist. Ingredients are mixed and matched, stepping away from the norm, to produce dishes that are both tasty and original.

Since Tal-Kaptan is a popular choice for families, more attention has been given to the children’s menu. With every meal, children will receive a toy and get the chance to win prizes in monthly competitions.

The restaurant is introducing new features, such as putting on masks and taking part in photo props for added entertainment before or after dining.

At the helm of the new Tal-Kaptan is Jonathan Pisani, who has years of experience working as operations manager at the Palace Hotel, Sliema. He will be helped by Anthony Micallef, formerly a crew member of Tal-Kaptan restaurant during its glory days.

Carlo Curmi, who is experienced in Mediterranean cuisine, is the new head chef.
