Volume 6, issue 2 of the International Journal of Emotional Education (IJEE) has been published by the University of Malta’s Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health.

Five papers by authors from Malta, the US, Ireland, Hungary and Greece deal with issues such as sensitising young children to mechanisms underlying racism; the use of mindfulness education for school children at risk; coping with bullying in middle schools; the development of social skills in childhood; and the use of inquiry-based learning in the teaching of mathematics for students with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties.

The edition has also two special short discussion papers on the current debate on the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) standards in education. The first paper argues against the dangers of transforming educational systems on the basis of standardised tests measuring a narrow range of cognitive abilities across cultures, and proposes a five-point statement on the right of every child to a balanced, meaningful, holistic, creative and arts-rich education.

The second discussion paper discusses the effects of the marketisation of higher education, with particular reference to the implications for teacher education and the social-emotional education agenda.

The IJEE is a biennial, peer-reviewed, international, electronic journal supported by an international board of reviewers. It may be freely accessed at the website below.
