Peter Mayo’s book Gramsci Freire and Adult Education. Possibilities for Transformative Action, published in its original English version by Zed Books in 1999, has been published in Japanese by TaroJiro-Sha Editus Co., Ltd.

This is the seventh foreign language, apart from the original in English, in which this book has been published. It was previously published in Catalan (Crec, Xativa)), Portuguese (ArtMed, Porto Alegre, Brazil), German (Argument, Hamburg), Italian (Carlo Delfino, Sassari), Spanish (Isittuto Paulo Freire, Xativa) and Turkish (Utopya, Ankara).

The original English version sold around 2,600 copies after having gone into reprint. It was favourably reviewed in around 30 journals, including the Harvard Education Review and Comparative Education Review .

Peter Mayo is professor in the Department of Education Studies, Faculty of Education, University of Malta and has written and edited about 20 books.

These were mostly published by foreign publishing houses, including Routledge, Bloomsbury, Wiley-Blackwell, Rowman & Littlefield, Peter Lang, Zero Books/John Hunt and Zed Books.
