A dog is in critical condition after it was found abandoned in a flour bag, with another bag over its head.

The Secretariat for Animal Welfare condemned the incident.

It said its officials were alerted to the case today at about 1.30p.m. 

The dog was found at Handaq abandoned in a flour sack with her head in another plastic bag.

The dog was immediately taken to St Francis Animal Welfare Centre where her condition was described as serious, but stable.

The secretariat said it has called in the police.

It appealed to anyone having any information to contact the police or the Animal Welfare Department on telephone 1717.
