It’s finally December and that means that we can all start talking about Christmas without having the grinches looking at us all weird. With roundabouts already donning Christmassy light sculptures and many roads around Malta and Gozo already switched on their street lights it’s hard not to get in the mood but just in case this year it’s just not coming here are a few tips.

Get the Christmas tunes out
We will be writing a lot more about Christmas songs later on in the month. Nothing puts you in a Christmassy mood more than those jingles. Year after year they reignite the love we all have for the season and make everything seem a little more warm and jolly. If you’re at odds and don’t know what to listen to I have two words for you: Michael Buble. His voice will melt any Grinch’s heart away.

Get the Christmas movies out
From the classics to the animated ones, from the funny to the heartwarming, from Lethal Weapon to Love Actually there is a reason why we all love a good Christmas movie. There are so many to choose from and later one we’ll also be counting down the top 10 movies to watch with your family.

Indulge in seasonal delicacies
Say hello to Qagħaq tal-Għasel (honey rings) and Imbuljata (chestnut and cocoa delight) if you want to go local and traditional. Of course we cannot forget Christmas logs, mince pies, christmas cakes. The list is endless, and that’s just the sweets.

Decorate, decorate, decorate
Crank up the Christmas tunes and start decorating your house or room but don’t stop there! Decorate your car, your office, your bakes, your nails; anything you want really!

Go to a Christmas market or bazaar
There is so much happening in terms of events around Malta and Gozo. From all the different Presepji to Christmas markets to carol singing events.

Christmas is all about coming together and celebrating happiness. The most important thing to get into the Christmas spirit is to be jolly! Oh and remember if a grinch does turn round and tell you that Christmas is just a consumerist ploy tell them that they are missing the whole point of Christmas if they think it’s all about spending money.
