The main items on the agenda of the ASA Annual General Meeting, held last Wednesday, were the election of three officials on the executive committee and an amendment to competition rule WPRC – 26(b) on foreign players.

Three vacancies were filled for the posts of general secretary, vice-president (swimming) and vice-president (waterpolo). The nominees for these respective posts were Rita Azzopardi, Mark Galea and Karl Galea, the three being elected uncontested.

Azzopardi has had a long connection with the ASA serving in various positions, while Mark Galea has been in charge of swimming for these last years and Karl Galea was appointed acting vice-president last summer.

An amendment presented by Sliema whereby ‘each team would have a maximum of one player (rather than two) of non-Maltese nationality in its line-up for any seniors match organised under the aegis of the ASA’ was not approved after a 10-10 vote.

Prior to the AGM, ASA president Joe Caruana Curran thanked outgoing general secretary Marco Manara for his services and presented him with a memento.

BOV Chief Officer Anthony Scicluna presented the premier and first division ‘Player of the Year’ awards to Matthew Zammit of San Ġiljan ASC and Sean Xerri de Caro (Marsaxlokk) respectively.
