348 vehicles which were taken off the roads and held in police compounds have now been scrapped, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia said in Parliament.

Answering a question by opposition MP Jason Azzopardi, he said none of the vehicles had been confiscated by court order. They had all been derelict vehicles abandoned in the streets and none of them had been reclaimed by the owners, even after the publication of a relevant notice in the Government Gazette.

The vehicles had been sold to Hompesch Processing Ltd, which had tendered the best offer per metric ton. The exercise had yielded €44,935 to the Police Corps.
