Charles Calleja is right about the great wall (or ‘bastion’) of Salina (November 24) being an eyesore and his suggestion for an alternative solution is very valid.

This wall will become an even worse eyesore with time as Maltese stone of mediocre quality (apparently what is now left in most quarries) starts crumbling, particularly with rising damp – one can see these eyesores on the sides of some major roads where such high stone walls were built.
