Violence: About 100 hooligans armed with sticks and knives wounded three men and caused mayhem when they charged into the coffee bar at River Plate’s Monumental Stadium in a frenzied attack on members of a rival gang. Shenton: Stoke City have tied down teenage prospect Ollie Shenton to a long-term deal. Thieves broke into the home when Kenyan midfielder Wanyama was away for the game at Aston Villa on Monday night. When the 23-year-old returned he found his Range Rover Sport, electrical items and jewellery had been stolen from his home in Winchester.

Bent: Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has dropped down to the Championship to join Brighton on loan. The 30-year-old former England international, who cost Villa £18 million from Sunderland in 2011, has agreed an initial one-month deal with the Seagulls after falling out of favour at Villa Park. He could make his debut on Saturday against Fulham, the club where he spent last season on loan.
