Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia this morning refused to reply to a question by the Opposition spokesman whether the Rapid Intervention Unit had ordered a car involved in a shooting incident last week to be placed on a low loader.

The car, belonging to a Scotsman, had been placed on the loader before the arrival of the inquiring magistrate. It had been shot at by Dr Mallia’s security driver after it earlier hit the minister’s car.

Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi asked the minister if the RIU had given the order for the car to be moved to the low loader.

The minister said that since there was an Opposition motion on the matter and an inquiry was underway, he would give the requested explanations at the opportune moment.
