A 31-year-old Somali man was cleared of threatening his neighbour and injuring her after the victim declared in court that she had forgiven him.

Nor Mohamed Madahey, who lives in Safi, was charged with assaulting his neighbour - Roda Abdallah Obey - and threatening her with a broomstick and a knife following a disagreement in their apartment block on Sunday at about 9.30pm.

Police Inspectors Kevin Pulis and Johann Fenech told Magistrate Carol Peralta how the woman had informed police she wanted to drop the charges. He told her she would have to declare this in court, which she did.

The woman forgave him but said she would like him not to bother her. The court cleared him of the charges but ordered him not to bother the woman.
