A memento has been presented to Godwin Farrugia by the Malta Tourism Authority in recognition of his heroic act when he rescued 13 Italian divers at Wied iz-Zurrieq.

The divers had gone diving at Wied iz-Zurrieq to explore the Um El Faroud, in spite of the rough seas. They were soon carried away by the current. Mr Farrugia took to the sea in his boat to rescue the divers, risking his own life.

Upon presenting the memento to Mr Farrugia, MTA chairman Gavin Gulia said he “commends Mr Farrugia’s great act of courage in risking his life to save the Italian divers and this is why the authority wanted to acknowledge this with a gesture of appreciation”.
