On Friday, November 21, I phoned the Melitensia section of the University Library to explain I might be unable to return on the due date the book borrowed up to the day after (November 22).

I was asked when I expected to return it, and when I said that probably on the Saturday after the 22nd, I was told to submit a medical certificate for the delay. Why didn’t they suggest a loan extension?

Eventually I did get an extension, courteously and without any hassle, from the circulation library when I called on phone 2340 2049.

As a former assistant librarian for a nine-year span at the National Museum of Archaeology, I find it incomprehensible to be asked for a medical certificate for a book loan extension.
