The migrants were transferred to Coast Guard vessels and taken ashore in Sicily.

At the end of October Italy ended its sea rescue mission Mare Nostrum, which saved the lives of more than 100, 000 migrants from Africa and the Middle East, but it still responds to emergency calls.
