A migrant was today sentenced to one year in jail suspended for two years after pleading guilty to stealing a woman's handbag from Paceville on Saturday night.

Abdiaziz Hassan Ibrahim, 37, admitted to stealing the handbag because he was hungry and had no money to buy food to eat.

He told Magistrate Carol Peralta that his boss at the farm where he worked told him he was not going to pay him and since he had no money and was hungry, he stole the handbag belonging to a woman from Birzebbuga.

The magistrate told the man that rather than stealing, he should have reported his boss to the police.

He handed him a one year suspended sentence and warned him not to do it again. The migrant has been in Malta since 2012 and this was his first offence.
