Two men were today charged over the haul of two kilograms of cannabis found by Drug Squad police in a garage in Tarxien over the weekend.
The court heard how Wayne Grima, 31, from Paola, allegedly agreed to collect and keep the consignment for the other accused, Tony Curmi, 32, from Tarxien.
Before Magistrate Carol Peralta, both men pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Mr Grima was charged with conspiracy to traffic cannabis and possession of the drug in quantities denoting it was not for his persona use.
Mr Curmi was also charged with conspiracy to deal in cannabis as well as with cannabis trafficking and possession in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use.
Police Inspector Herman Mula told the court that Mr Grima had cooperated with the police and told the police how he had accepted to collect the cannabis and keep it in his possession.
He said Mr Grima was "a vulnerable witness" and had accepted to testify against Mr Curmi in his criminal case. The two were arraigned separately.
Mr Grima was granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a €4,500 personal guarantee. He was also ordered to be at home between 9pm and 6am and sign the bail book every day.
Magistrate Peralta denied Mr Curmi's request for bail and he was remanded in custody.
Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Angie Muscat appeared for Mr Grima while lawyer Noel Cutajar appeared for Mr Curmi.
