David Borg of Lija (‘A new parish priest needed’, October 28) must be one of the happiest men on the island because his request to have our dear Balzan parish priest changed has been met by the Apostolic Administrator.

On a personal note, although I never had any praise for the Lija parish priest, I always considered writing something along the lines of what Borg wrote as uncalled for. Instead, I took the decision to attend the neighbouring village.

Last Sunday, when Dun Kalċ broke the news that he has been assigned duties in another parish, you could see everyone’s eyes fill with tears accompanied by a deafening applause for a person who during his tenure did nothing but good. He welcomed with open arms parishioners and those who, like my family, reside outside Balzan. Under his leadership everyone felt at home.

We have always admired his weekly homily as he includes himself with the rest of the congregation. While listening, one will notice that he latches the teaching in the scriptures to the society we live in today.

Our loss is Mġarr’s gain. I can assure the members of Mġarr community that they will start to see people outside of their village who will come to visit their new parish priest.

On a final note, while thanking the Church authorities who have promoted Dun Kalċ to monsignor, recognising his qualities, I beg that they consider allowing him to continue his mission at Balzan throughout the upcoming Christmas festivities prior to commencing his new task.
