Falcao: Manchester United forward Radamel Falcao is back in training after overcoming a niggling calf problem, the 28-year-old confirmed on Twitter yesterday. Falcao, on loan at Old Trafford from Ligue 1 side Monaco, has not featured since a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion on October 20. On Thursday, manager Louis van Gaal announced Falcao could be out for a further two weeks after suffering a “new injury”.

Iniesta: Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has failed to recover from a calf strain and will miss tomorrow’s Champions League Group F match at APOEL Nicosia. Iniesta, who sustained the injury in last month’s La Liga ‘Clasico’ at Real Madrid, has not been included in the squad for the match in Cyprus along with defender Thomas Vermaelen.

In Brazil: Cruzeiro were crowned Brazilian league champions for the second consecutive year last night after they beat Goias 2-1 at home to open up an unbeatable lead at the top of Serie A. The Belo Horizonte team are seven points clear of second-placed Sao Paulo, with two games to go.

Coach sacked: Brisbane Roar sacked coach Mike Mulvey yesterday after five defeats in the first six games of the new season left the A-League champions languishing in the lower reaches of the table. Just six months after he was named A-League coach of the season for leading Brisbane to their third title in four years in May, Mulvey was handed his notice in the wake of a 1-0 defeat to Melbourne Victory.

Molde: Goals from Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Mohamed Elyounoussi gave Molde a 2-0 victory over Odd Grenland in yesterday’s Norwegian Cup final, securing the second part of a domestic double. “This has been the dream for us the whole year and finally we have managed it,” Gulbrandsen told reporters as he and his team-mates celebrated becoming the first Norwegian side to win the domestic double since Rosenborg in 2003.

PSV: PSV Eindhoven’s lead in the Dutch Eredivisie was cut to two points as Phillip Cocu’s team were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at FC Groningen yesterday. PSV still lead on 31 points but Ajax, 4-1 victors over Heerenveen on Saturday, have taken closer order as they seek to successfully defend their title.
