Obituaries

CASSAR. On November 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIANNE, residing in Sliema, passed peacefully away at the age of 70, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Christine and her husband Jesmond, Steve and his wife Francesca, Robert and his wife Francesca, her beloved grandchildren Rebekah, Max, Anna and Sophie, her brother Joseph Muscat, his wife Miriam, their daughter Martina Schembri and her husband Mark, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said tomorrow at 2pm at Balluta parish church, St Julian’s. No flowers by request but donations to Hospice Malta will be greatly appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest.

GAFFIERO – KARMENU (Carmel) FRANCIS, surrounded by his loving family, passed peacefully away on November 18, at the age of 81. Being the strong-willed, disciplined and courageous person that he was, Carm fought long and hard against the cancer that he had been living with the past six years. His perseverance through various ailments, including heart disease and diabetes, was an inspiration to us all. He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Maria, his children Adrian, Bernadette (David), Claude (Sandra). The joys of his life, his five grandchildren Evan, Breanna, Liliana, Stefani and Victoria, will forever feel the embrace of his love for them. Born in Paola on March 15, 1933, Carm, son of the late Vincenza and the late Gianni, one of six siblings, predeceased by George (Lilian), Ġuża (predeceased by Paul), Fr Anthony, Tarcisio (Ġemma), and predeceased by Sam (Sylvia), grew up through the grinding years of World War II. He worked for the British High Commission and the Central Bank of Malta. In 1977, he emigrated to Canada with his family. He worked as a stationary engineer for the City of Toronto, demonstrating a strong work ethic and drive until his retirement. His philanthropic contributions to the less fortunate exemplified his altruistic nature. His deep and lasting faith in God was with him until his final breath. He will forever remain in our hearts.

She leaves to mourn her loss her sons Silvio and his partner Therese, Mark and his wife Astrid, her daughter Therese and her husband Dex Fernandes, her grandchildren Michela, Gabriel, Matthew and Adriana, her brothers and sisters, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2pm for St Helen basilica, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Hospice Malta will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

TRIGANZA. On November 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, GUIDO, aged 88, widower of Roseanne née Mifsud Kissaun, passed peacefully away surrounded by his family and comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his daughters Joan and her husband David, Marthese and her partner Joe, Marlene and her husband Saviour, his son Alfred and his wife Ann, and his son-in-law Joe, husband of the late Donia, his grandchildren Susanne, Claire, Etienne, Jean Pierre, Ivan, Ariana, André, Ian and Sarah, his in-laws Steve, Esther, Annalise and Stephanie, and his great-grandchildren Kyle, Kelsey, Sean, Kieran, Zach and Kyra, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2pm for St Joseph parish church, Msida, where a Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. ZAMMIT. On November 22, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH, aged 53, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss, his beloved wife Hortense, his parents Mary and William, his sister Mariella and her husband David and his niece Sarah, his in-laws Antoinette and her husband René, Noelle and her husband Norbert, Isabel and her husband Quentin, his nephews Luke, Ben, Max and Jack, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2pm for Ibraġ parish church, where Mass praesante cadavere will be said at 2.30pm, followed by interment in the family vault at Żejtun cemetery. No flowers by donations to the Richmond Foundation would be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal life.
