Fr Joe Borg was correct when he wrote about the balance struck by The Sunday Times of Malta between the people’s right to know and a person’s privacy, referring to allegations of sexual abuse by a priest. He also pointed out that sections of the media focused more on this story rather than on the Leisure Clothing saga.

Today the wound of sexual abuse is being acknowledged and addressed. However this does not diminish the reality that the Church from time immemorial has been a protagonist in defending the dignity of human beings and providing services to those in need.

In a world seemingly clouded by abuses of different kinds a wise remedial option would be to listen to God. There are many who are happy to have God within them and are authentic witnesses of gospel values without trying to impose them on others.

As Fr Rene Camilleri wrote recently, to listen to God we need wisdom and in turn listening to God makes us wise.

When we listen to God we avoid damage and repercussions caused by unwise behaviour.

Instead we are capable of loving intelligently enlightened by faith, reason and wisdom confirming what Camilleri again quotes that: “Grace is everywhere.”
