Caremalta, the operator of eight private homes for elderly people which currently house some 1,200 residents, is organising the first edition of Active Aging Week to promote active ageing as a way of living for the elderly.
For the occasion the company has prepared a programme of events, to take place between tomorrow and Friday.
All events are aimed at promoting all aspects of active ageing – social, physical and mental well-being – all ingredients of a healthy lifestyle.
The programme of events consists of an exhibition of items prepared by the residents of all Caremalta’s eight homes; different types of physical activities ranging from dance therapy to yoga, from aerobics to zumba and a quiz for teams of residents based on the history of Malta.
Active Ageing Week 2014 will end on a high note on Friday when a walk for elderly people will be held starting from Independence monument in Floriana and ending at the President’s Palace in Valletta where participants will be met by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
The walk will start at 10.30am; however, those who wish to join in are invited to register between 9.30 and 10.30am. A free T-shirt and fruit will be given to all participants. The event is being supported by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, FNG Supplies Co Ltd and UV print.
Commenting on the initiative, Caremalta CEO Natalie Briffa Farrugia said: “Through this initiative Caremalta is showing that it is not only a leader in residential and nursing care of older people but also an avid promoter of a healthy old age, which helps to add life to years rather than only years to life”.
