Jazz Moods will take music lovers on a journey through time in jazz, with a recital by three of Malta’s foremost jazz musicians – brothers Simon and Tony Sammut and Joseph ‘Bibi’ Camilleri.

The trio will be interpreting a special selection of numbers by some of the great stalwarts of jazz, such as Thelonius Monk, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock.

The Sammut brothers come from a musical family. The elder brother, Tony, is conductor, pianist, composer and accompanist. He has performed in Malta and abroad and has composed songs for various national song festivals in Malta.

For a number of years he was resident pianist with the Malta Song Festival Orchestra.

Simon studied piano for several years before falling in love with bass and with great bass names like James Jameson, Jaco Pastorius, Francis Rocco Prestia, Verdine White and Larry Graham. Simon has performed with leading musicians and in concerts in Malta and abroad.

Joseph ‘Bibi’ Camilleri has inherited his nickname from his father, Joe Senior, and his grandfather, Frank, before him. Camilleri has performed on television and at the Manoel Theatre and is currently drummer and percussionist with the Latin jazz band KomoKuba.

Jazz Moods will be held on December 5 at St James Cavalier, Valletta.
