No one carrying a weapon will be allowed in Parliament, according to a letter sent to all Members of Parliament by the Clerk of the House.

In the letter, clerk Raymond Scicluna wrote that the Speaker asked him to advise members that, as from Monday, a number of security measures would be taken at the entrance of the Palace to ensure that no one carrying a weapon was allowed in.

People attending for the sitting would be frisked and the contents of their bags checked, the clerk wrote.

Employees, security officials accompanying ministers and MPs and members of the media were being asked to use the entrance near the lift where the police would be conducting this service.

The directive comes in the wake of a controversy in which a minister's security driver fired three shots at another car.
