Six wines from the 2014 vintage from Delicata’s popular, award-winning range of Malta-grown quality wines, Medina, were bottled and released last week.

This will be particularly welcome news not only to those wine enthusiasts who like their wine ‘young and fresh’, but also to those who have been patiently awaiting the availability of the new vintage wines.

Due to the wine brand’s popularity and over-demand earlier this year, Delicata unexpectedly found itself running out of many of these varietals much earlier than anticipated – a shortcoming that has now been rectified by an early release of this latest vintage, months before many other 2014 wines will hit restaurants and super-market shelves.

The six wines released consist of two white blends made from Vermentino and Zibibbo and Chardonnay and Girgentina; the award-winning Medina Rosé which is made from a blend of Grenache and Cabernet Franc; and two reds – a mono-varietal Merlot and the most popular of Medina red wines, made from an exclusive blend of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache.

For lovers of young wines, the whites and rosé are bursting with aromatic, commanding bouquets of ripe fruit, and on the palate they are crisp, refreshing and packed with vibrant, young and zingy fruit flavours.

As for the juicy, unoaked reds, they will have a bright, youthful colour, are sturdy and robust on the palate and are crammed with concentrated, jammy red fruit flavours.

To be enjoyed at their best, the whites and rosé should be drunk well chilled, whereas the reds should be drunk at room temperature and, if possible, opened an hour before drinking to allow sufficient time for the firm young tannins to open up and soften slightly.

The very first Medina wines to be launched were from the 2000 vintage and comprised of just a red Syrah Carignan Grenache, and a white Chardonnay Girgentina, still mainstays in the Medina range, which now consists of 10 wines.

The Medina wines between them have won nine international awards, culminating in a gold medal for the Medina Cabernet Franc in Italy just last month.
