Mackay: Malky Mackay is back in football after Wigan confirmed the Scot as their new manager. The 42-year-old, out of work since being axed by Cardiff last December, takes over a club in the Championship’s bottom three. In August, Mackay admitted to sending text messages which were deemed “disrespectful of other cultures”, but Latics chairman Dave Whelan has offered him a route back into the game just three months later.

Nigeria out: Holders Nigeria were bundled out of the African Nations Cup qualifiers after being held to a 2-2 home draw by South Africa and missing out on a top two place in Group A last night. Nigeria will not get the chance to defend their title in Equatorial Guinea next year because the result, coupled with a 1-0 win for Congo in Sudan, means they finish third. Striker Tokelo Rantie scored twice for South Africa who let a two-goal lead slip and were denied a first ever win in Nigeria by a late leveller.”

Krychowiak: Sevilla say they have not received any offers for Pole Grzegorz Krychowiak, who has been linked with Arsenal. Krychowiak only joined Sevilla from Reims this summer but there is already speculation his stay in Spain could be a short one. Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi said: “We’ve not received any offer for him. Things are going very well with Krychowiak. We’re going to let him enjoy being at Sevilla because he’s delighted to be here.”

Sinclair: Manchester City’s Scott Sinclair admits a lack of first-team football means he will have to reconsider his future in January. The 25-year-old has not made a Premier League start for over two years and has played just 22 minutes in two matches this season. “It has been very frustrating for the last couple of years,” he said. “I made the decision to come to City and fight it out with all the big players and it hasn’t really worked out this far. All I can do is re-evaluate in January.”
