The Malta Developers Association this morning waded into the controversy about a property belonging to Equal Opportunities Minister Helena Dalli, saying it was normal practice for developers to allow purchasers to carry out additional works once a promise of sale (konvenju) has been signed.

"Promises of sale (konvenji) are legally binding documents that are officially registered with the Commissioner of Inland Revenue," it said.

Ms Dalli is insisting that it is the property buyer who is carrying out the works, and she did not know about them.

Eyebrows have been raised, however, over works in breach of an enforcement order.
