A man today denied attempting to set fire to his brother's trapping room, killing a number of birds in the process, following an altercation between the two.

Thomas Spagnol, 42, from Zabbar, is pleading not guilty to the attempted arson on the night of November 10 at the room the two brothers shared in Xghajra.

He is also charged with animal cruelty, voluntary damage and relapsing.

Before Magistrate Doreen Clarke, Mr Spagnol pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000 and on condition that he does not approach the field and that he signs the bail book twice a week.

Lawyer Michael Schriha appeared for the accused.
