Having just attended a funeral Mass at the Addolorata Cemetery’s main chapel, I was disgusted to find the toilet beneath the church in an awful state: crumbling stone steps on the old spiral staircase with iron bannisters coming off the stonework in places; a dirty wash-hand basin; a broken toilet seat on the floor; no hand towels or a hand dryer; soiled toilet paper in a corner, in the absence of a wastepaper bin.
This is, I wish to add, not an isolated case of substandard toilets accessible to the public in this country.
Won’t we ever learn?!
