I am writing in the hope that someone, high up in the management of the bus service, reads this letter, which refers to a lot of the drivers that are in employment at the present time.

It seems to me there are no rules and regulations for most of these people because every time I get on a bus I have to put up with listening to the driver on his mobile phone for the best part of the journey. If something gets said, you end up with a load of verbal abuse or are told to get off his bus.

Do these people get lessons in how to drive a bus without sending the people standing up from one end of the bus to the other?

Do they know how to brake gently or how to accelerate without jerking the bus so hard that if you are standing up you won’t stay like that for long unless you are holding on for dear life?

I live in hope that when the new buses start, the drivers get told to switch off their mobiles and the outcome of not doing so will result in instant dismissal.

And the drivers need to be shown the proper and safe way to drive their passengers around. I for one do not mind paying a little bit extra so long as I know I am going to get to my destination without putting my life at risk.

Yes, there are some decent drivers who are courteous and drive with care but they are very hard to come by. When I do come across them I make sure to thank them for a pleasant journey.
