Low income couples who both work and are on a minimum wage are to benefit from a one-off grant of €1,000 per child as long as they declare their employment, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said this evening. Single parents will be given €1,200 per child.

He told parliament that the measure was aimed at encouraging more women to work, and to declare their employment.

BONUS FOR THOSE AT RISK OF POVERTY

Furthermore, the minister said, 9,000 families who are at the risk of poverty will be given a bonus of €400 for each of their children, up to four children, and €200 each for other children, as long as these children achieve an attendance rate of 95% in their schools.
