With reference to the story published on November 10 titled ‘Married father: I will make a good deacon’, at no point did Claudio Laferla cast any judgement on himself or said he would “relish” the opportunity to become a deacon.

Mr Laferla was expressing his views on the issue of permanent deacons, raised after the announcement made a few days before by Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona.

His position on the issue was that, if the Church proposed this ministry, those who felt called could ask to be accepted as candidates after a period of formation. However, the decision on who would be fit to be ordained deacon would solely rest on the Archbishop. Any inconvenience is regretted.
