Can I borrow your socks, is the beach new or old and is Brighton where the tunnel to France starts? are just some of the odd questions customers have asked hotel staff.

More unusual requests by people staying at Brighton’s two Travelodge hotels have included: “The wind is very strong outside, can’t someone turn it down?”

“How far should I run along the front in the morning? I don’t want to get caught by the tides.”

“Can I borrow an iPhone for a meeting I have tomorrow? My phone is not very professional.”

“Can someone help me stop snoring?”

“How many boats are in Brighton?”, and “We’re not near Wales are we? I need to get to a wedding this afternoon and I don’t have my car.”

Staff at a Travelodge in Portsmouth were asked if they had any contacts at Portsmouth Football Club by a customer who wanted a trial, while another customer asked whether they could borrow a member of staff’s glasses for the day as they had lost their contact lenses.

The wind is very strong outside, can’t someone turn it down?

At Gatwick Airport Travelodge, a customer asked the hotel manager: “Does the plane pull up outside of the hotel or do you drive us to the plane in the morning for my flight to the Caribbean?”

Other strange requests have included the hotel team at Stafford Travelodge being asked by a customer: “Does my pet jaguar count as a cat in your pet policy?”

While the receptionist at Lutterworth Travelodge in Leicestershire was asked: “What time does the 24-hour reception close?”

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “Our annual bizarre requests audit of 513 hotels reveals over 200,000 unusual requests by our business and leisure customers, with some of the more unusual ones coming from our hotels in Brighton.

“Our hotel teams will always try their best to accommodate customer requests but there are just some requests that we just can’t help with, such as changing the weather or counting the stars in the sky.”
