To increase awareness of invasive pneumococcal disease, part of which is pneumococcal pneumonia, Vivian Corporation has participated and organised activities on and around World Pneumonia Day in Malta.

Established in 2009, World Pneumonia Day is marked every year on November 12. “Vivian Corporation aims to increase awareness of this preventable illness affecting both children and adults. Vaccines are not just for children,” said Vivian Corporation executive director Joanna Gatt.

The corporation’s employees joined the campaign by wearing blue jeans and donating funds to Qalb it-Tfal, an organisation that collects funds for the Neonatal Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, which also looks after children suffering from pneumonia.

The blue jeans theme was also evident at the installation set-up at The Point, where students from the Malta Pharmacy Students’ Association gave out information to visitors about preventing this deadly disease.
