Eighty youths from 17 countries took part in an Erasmus+ project entitled Bridging Youth Through Sport hosted by Stelmar Sports Federation, the sports wing of Stella Maris College, Gżira.
During their six-day stay in Malta, the 13- to16-year-olds took part in chess, cycling, pool, cross country, bowling and table tennis tournaments. They also attended cultural visits to Vittoriosa, Valletta and Tarxien, a workshop on European citizenship led by MEP Therese Comodini Cachia, a session entitled ‘Building a career through sport’ led by Justin Haber and another on ‘Leading a healthy lifestyle’ by Andy Grech.
There was also a traditional Maltese night and another celebrating the diverse cultures of all participating nations, including Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Italy, Lithuania, Palestine, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Malta.
A number of asylum seekers from Egypt, Eritrea, Mali, Somalia and Sudan also took part.
The event was funded by the EU.
