Q: Is it legal not to accept return of goods?

Q: If a business is legally obliged to accept returns, do we have to give a cash refund or can we give a credit note instead?

A: Legally, consumers have the right to return a product to the seller if it is defective or does not conform to the contract of sale. If there is a problem with the product returned, you may first try to repair it or replace it with a new one.

If neither repair nor replacement are possible solutions, then you are obliged to give the consumer a cash refund.

These legal remedies do not apply if a customer changes their mind. Hence, if the consumer returns a product because he has simply changed his mind about it, and there is nothing wrong with the product, you are not legally obliged to accept the product back.

If you decide to accept it, since such a situation is not covered by law, it is basically up to you to decide what solution to offer the consumer.
