Local tax expert Robert Attard, pictured, has led a multinational team that has submitted arguments to the European Court of Human Rights in a case involving a challenge to the French inheritance tax system. This high-profile case is expected to create a precedent at EU level.
Although Maltese human rights lawyers have argued cases at the European Court of Human Rights against Malta, this is believed to be the first time it has happened against other state signatories.
Dr Attard is a partner and tax policy leader with EY, Central & South East Europe, a senior lecturer at the University and member of the European Association of Tax Law Professors.
