Roberto Mancini has been confirmed as the new coach of Inter. The news means that the former Manchester City boss will embark on a second spell in charge of the Nerazzurri, having first coached the club between 2004 and 2008.
The former Italy international was most recently in charge of Turkish club Galatasaray, who he left in the summer. He replaces Walter Mazzarri, who was sacked yesterday with the club ninth in the Serie A table.
A statement from Inter owner Erick Thohir read: “Today I made the difficult decision to dismiss Walter Mazzarri as head coach. It was a decision that I reached in conjunction with my management team.
“I would like to thank him sincerely for his efforts. However, our goal is to regain our rightful position as one of the very top clubs in Europe and that’s why I am so happy to welcome back Roberto Mancini.”
Inter won three consecutive Serie A titles during Mancini’s first spell at the San Siro, and he also led Manchester City to a dramatic Premier League title success in 2012 when Sergio Aguero’s late goal snatched the title away from local rivals United.
