Dutch squad: Coach Guus Hiddink called up Karim Rekik for the Netherlands’ Euro 2016 qualifier against Latvia with defender Ron Vlaar doubtful for Sunday’s game because of an injury. Vlaar suffered a calf problem during the 3-2 defeat by Mexico in a friendly in Amsterdam on Wednesday and is set to miss the Latvia match.

Rosler: Wigan have sacked German manager Uwe Rosler yesterday. Chairman Dave Whelan had offered his full support to the former East Germany international only last weekend, after Wigan dropped into the relegation zone. Whelan, however, said that he had changed his mind in the last few days. Rosler was appointed less than a year ago, lifting the team from the bottom half of the Championship to finish fifth and losing to QPR in the play-offs.

Sacked: Russian side Kuban Krasnodar, unhappy with the lack of discipline shown by their players, have parted company with coach Viktor Goncharenko. Arsen Papi-kyan, one of his assistants, will take over as caretaker.

Zarate: Mauro Zarate has moved to allay fears he is set to look for a move away from West Ham in the January window. The 27-year-old only joined the Hammers in the summer but reports emerged yesterday containing quotes from Luis Ruzzi, who claimed to be the Argentine’s agent, which declared Zarate’s unhappiness at Upton Park. “Accor-ding to recent news articles I would like to inform that I have no agent and I never said that I wanted to leave West Ham,” he said.

Charged: Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland have been charged by the English FA for failing to control their players during Premier League games last weekend. QPR players surrounded the referee, Mike Dean, after having a goal disallowed against Manchester City on Saturday because the visitors’ goalkeeper Joe Hart had touched the ball twice when taking a free-kick. Sunderland’s players did the same to referee Lee Mason after he awarded Everton a penalty from which they equalised to draw 1-1.

UEFA U-19: Group 6 – Ireland vs Malta 1-0.
