Two security guards were this morning placed on probation for two years and sentenced to 100 hours of community service after they pleaded guilty to stealing several objects from cars parked at the Intercontinental Hotel car park in St Julian's.

A 50-year-old from Naxxar and a 29-year-old from Marsaxlokk, pleaded guilty to the three thefts in November and December last year and in May this year.

From the cars they stole three satellite navigations systems, as well as a camera and a computer. They also pleaded guilty to damaging the cars.

Magistrate Carol Peralta placed them on probation for two years and ordered them to carry out 100 hours of community service.

Police Inspector Arthur Mercieca prosecuted while lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Angie Muscat appeared for the accused.
